2027 Suzuki GSX-R1000R 40th Anniversary Edition Totalmotorcycle.com Key Features
Compact, Light Engine
The high-performance 999.8cm3 four-stroke liquid-cooled DOHC inline-four engine is the most powerful and hardest accelerating engine in the GSX-R family.
Simple, compact and light, the centrifugally operated SR-VVT system is built into the intake cam sprocket and an adjacent guide plate, adding significantly to power at the high end.
The Suzuki Clutch Assist System (SCAS) contributes to smooth shifting and realizes a light touch to clutch lever operation that helps reduce fatigue on long rides, especially when caught in busy traffic.
Precision Power
In addition to the primary injectors that operate full-time in each throttle body, a secondary set of four Suzuki Top Feed Injectors (S-TFI) spray fuel from the top of the air box directly into the intake funnels at higher rpm. This results in enhanced combustion efficiency, throttle response and top-end power.
Suzuki Fowler
Suzuki Racing Finger Follower valve train
The Suzuki Racing Finger follower valve train system improves valve control and allows higher rpm.
The new exhaust system includes a slimmer new muffler design.
Suzuki Launch Control System
The Suzuki Launch Control System has also been updated to further improve its control scheme.
This system makes it easier for a racer to get a good start in closed-course competition by automatically limiting engine rpm and optimizing torque delivery while the rider holds the throttle twist grip wide open and concentrates on feeding in the clutch lever.
Each forged aluminum piston has short skirts, cutaway sides and a short, DLC-coated wrist pin to reduce friction.
The compression ratio is 13.8:1. In addition to the primary injector mounted in each throttle body, a second injector that operates at higher rpm — also known as a Top Feed Injector (TFI) — is mounted on top of the air cleaner box, directly over each throttle body’s intake funnel.
The TFI injector delivers additional fuel in an improved spray pattern designed to enhance combustion efficiency, throttle response and top-end power.
Suzuki Racing Variable Valve Timing System (SR-VVT)
The introduction of a wider new cam chain helps reduce friction loss.
Forged Aluminum pistons
Each forged aluminum piston has short skirts, cutaway sides and a short, DLC-coated wrist pin to reduce friction. The compression ratio is 13.8:1.
Suzuki Top Feed Injectors (S-TFI)
In addition to the primary injector mounted in each throttle body, a second injector that operates at higher rpm — also known as a Top Feed Injector (TFI) — is mounted in the top of the air cleaner box, directly over each throttle body’s intake funnel. The TFI injector delivers additional fuel in an improved spray pattern designed to enhance combustion efficiency, throttle response and top-end power.
Suzuki Dual Stage Intake (S-DSI)
A new single-stage funnel #1 and #4 design features a shape that contributes to improved output at high rpm.
4-2-1 exhaust system
A number of updates were applied to the 4-2-1 exhaust system. Enlarging the diameter of the exhaust pipe, a larger capacity elliptical (“racetrack-shaped”) catalytic converter, O2 sensors positioned in front and behind the catalytic converter, a more compact muffler body, and shot-blasted titanium muffler features a slim and stylish design.
SET-Alpha exhaust valves
New design SET-Alpha exhaust valves are in the balance tubes between the #1 and #4, and the #2 and #3 head pipes. Actuated by a cable from the main SET-valve, the Alpha valves open at higher engine speeds and close at lower RPM to help the engine create high peak power without losing low and mid-range horsepower.
Cooling System
The high-efficiency curved radiator with dual electric fans also contributes to excellent cooling performance, and the radiator itself adopts a more compact form.

Engine Features
Updated for 2027, the new high-performance 999.8cm3 four-stroke liquid-cooled DOHC inline-four engine retains the same level of drivability and reliability, while producing torque in even more linear fashion.
New crankcases and a crankshaft with larger diameter journals to support higher engine output and increase durability. A new cylinder head features modified intake and exhaust ports to achieve higher efficiency. To match the new cylinder head, a new head gasket design is used.
The intake and exhaust camshaft valve lift and timing were optimized to realize new engine output goals and help gain compliance with emissions regulations (EPA, CARB and Euro 5+). The camshafts’ maximum lift has not been changed, but the overlap has been reduced.
Complementing the four primary fuel injectors in the throttle bodies are four Suzuki Top Feed Injectors (S-TFI) that spray fuel from the top of the airbox directly into the intake funnels. For 2027, the S-TFI injectors are updated to an eight-hole from a ten-hole design which helps result in higher peak power, more efficient combustion, and more precise fueling control.
Additionally, a new, wider cam chain helps reduce frictional loss, (especially significant when using low viscosity oil in sprint or endurance races), plus the cam chain drive and driven sprockets design have been changed to match.
A new intermittent lubrication scheme is employed to precisely lubricate the camshafts with a specific amount of oil. This aids in ensuring lubrication in other sections of the engine and can help reduce losses due to oil windage.
The proprietary Suzuki Racing Variable Valve Timing System (SR-VVT) uses a centrifugal actuated mechanism on the intake camshaft sprocket that increases high engine rpm power without losing low- to mid-range power.
Revised for 2027, a change to piston heads to accommodate larger valves helps raise the compression ratio to 13.8:1 from 13.2:1 to aid power production. Matching other changes, the 2027 model’s new cylinder head’s combustion chamber design continues to minimize heat production.
The 4-2-1 exhaust system is all new for the 2027 GSX-R1000R to help the engine deliver a wide range of performance with an exciting rush up to the red line. The position of the exhaust collector is moved closer to the engine to aid in mass centralization while also helping the catalytic converter’s “warm up” which aid flow and a reduction of exhaust emissions.
The media-blasted titanium muffler with muted GSX-R logo enhances the new exhaust system’s appearance and is mounted high for good ground clearance at high lean angles while creating an exciting, distinctive sound. The exhaust’s new layout helps reduce the muffler size from 8.3 L to 5.5 L but retains the same performance as the prior system.
Transmission Features
The Suzuki Clutch Assist System (SCAS) multi-plate, wet clutch functions like a slipper clutch during downshifts while increasing plate pressure during acceleration. The Suzuki Bi-directional Quick Shift System enables smooth, clutchless upshifts and downshifts of the cassette-style, six-speed transmission.
The cassette-style, six-speed transmission lets riders precisely match gear ratios to the riding condition. A cassette-style transmission can be easily removed from the crankcase as an assembly with the engine still in the frame, making racetrack gear changes easier and simplifying service.
Based on Suzuki’s race-proven, close-ratio transmissions, the GSX-R1000R gear box features vertically staggered shafts reducing overall engine length.
The shift linkage can be easily set up for reverse-pattern, GP-style shifting (even with the quick-shifter in use).
Chassis Features
Light and compact, the twin-spar aluminum frame has adjustable swingarm pivots to help racers tune the chassis. The gold-anodized Showa® BFF fork and rear suspension components deliver extraordinary damping control while the lean-sensitive, ABS** system monitors the Brembo® four-piston, front brake calipers that are fed by stainless steel hoses.
The GSX-R1000R’s swingarm pivot features an adjustable location so the chassis can be better tuned for competition use (please use the standard position for street riding).
The Show® a Balance Free Front Fork (BFF) uses race-level technology to bring excellent damping force responsiveness not seen before in a supersport motorcycle. This suspension’s design controls damping force outside of the spring chamber, so the fork precisely maintains consistent damping regardless of its stroking action. With the BFF the rider enjoys an unparalleled level of surface feedback and ride compliance.
The GSX-R1000R is also fitted with a lightweight, race-ready upper triple clamp in conjunction with the BFF.
Racetrack-developed links connect the single Showa® Balance Free Rear Cushion Light (BFRC-lite) shock to the braced swingarm. The BFRC-lite’s innovative design controls damping force outside of the shock body to not only control how the suspension strokes but helps smooth its reaction over bumpy surfaces or when the chassis is pitched during braking. This produces a superb level of response in a racetrack environment and sets a new standard for rider feedback and comfort during street riding.
The GSX-R1000R comes with track-day-ready Bridgestone® Racing Street RS11 low-mass tires. The tires’ tread pattern reduces wear and maximizing sport performance and contact feel.
Advanced Electronics Feature
For 2027, Suzuki has fitted the latest, lightweight, and precise Bosch Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) on the GSX-R1000R. The IMU provides six-direction, three-axis, motion, and position information to the ECM, so instantaneous adjustments are made electronically to the engine and chassis components that influence performance.
The Suzuki Bi-directional Quick Shift System lets GSX-R1000R racers shift faster than ever. By manipulating ignition timing on upshifts and the electronic throttle bodies on downshifts, clutchless shifting helps deliver faster and more consistent lap times.
Updated for 2027, the Suzuki Launch Control System’s calibration provides GSX-R1000R riders a competitive advantage when launching their motorcycle at the start of the race. This system modulates engine power so the rider can concentrate on clutch operation.
Roll Torque Control is an intelligent system that, based on data received from the IMU and wheel speed sensors, calculates the bike’s lean angle and speed to predetermine what level of power output is optimal for a given corner. It works in conjunction with traction control to help deliver a sense of stability through the corner.
The Motion Track Anti-lock Brake System (ABS)** brings additional control to anti-lock braking. Like a conventional ABS system, the Motion Track Brake System provides the appropriate amount of braking force for the available traction. When the IMU detects the rear wheel lifting from extreme braking forces, the ABS control module will adjust the front brake pressure to reduce the rear wheel lift. If the IMU senses the motorcycle is leaned over when the brakes are used, the ABS unit will adjust the brake pressure to an optimal amount to help maintain braking force and tire grip.
**Depending on road surface conditions, such as wet, loose, or uneven roads, braking distance for an ABS-equipped vehicle may be longer than for a vehicle not equipped with ABS. ABS cannot prevent wheel skidding caused by braking while cornering. Please ride carefully and do not overly rely on ABS.
The GSX-R1000R adopts Lift Limiter, which brings added peace of mind to riders by helping prevent the front wheel from lifting off the ground when accelerating. Lift Limiter world silently in the background, with its settings being determined by the STCS level setting.
